Sarcopenia as a risk factor for severe COVID-19

A meta-analysis of nine studies with almost 500,000 patients shows that sarcopenia represents a risk factor for a severe course of COVID-19. Patients with reduced muscle mass and function have an increased risk of complications and a longer recovery time. This finding underlines the importance of muscle health for the immune system and for general resilience against infection.
